DESCRIPTION:LSC Members are invited to attend the most interesting Sussex Underwater visit at LSC on Friday 10th January 2025. \nEric and Catrine will be visiting LSC to tell us all about their mission advocating for the protection of our marine ecosystems \n“We are a group of passionate local people who want to make everyone fall in love with the local sea in Sussex.\nOur journey began with the inspiring tale of our co founder Eric Smith\, a 76 year old local diver who was an eye witness to destructive fishing practices which destroyed the seabed. His campaign to get trawlers banned in Sussex has been showcased in the BBC documentary (Our Lives; Our Sea Forest on BBC I player) highlighting the profound impact one individuals passion and drive can have to galvanise a change for the better. Sussex Underwater was set up so the sea was never “out of sight and out of mind” again”. \nWe will also hear about the kelp recovery project – the largest marine rewilding project in the UK and their eye witness account of the devastation of the Sussex seabed and its recovery since the trawler ban. \nWe will be serving some chilli and a jacket potato during the evening and the bar will be open. \nThe cost of the evening will be £5.00 a ticket for members and £8.00 for non members\, proceeds of which will be given to Sussex Underwater. \n

DESCRIPTION:Ever fancied a go at Sailing or other Watersports? Do you walk past thinking one day you should have a try? Well here’s the opportunity! At Lancing Sailing Club we offer a wide range of Watersports activities from sailing to swimming and standup paddle boarding. On the 24th May we are holding our have a go at Watersport Day where you can come and have a go at Sailing\, Swimming\, Stand-up Paddle boarding for free\, With food and drink available to Purchase. \nLancing Sailing Club is situated with direct beach access to some of the best sailing and watersports venues in the UK; a place perfect to get wet\, relax on the beach and enjoy the Club House to socialise in after\, with warm showers\, changing rooms and facilities for storing watersports kit (Sailing Dinghies\, kayaks\, SUPs\, windsurfing kit). \nWithin the club we have the following going on: \n\nDinghy sailing\, with an active racing fleet sailing April through to December. Regular Wednesday evening and Sunday racing.\nOpen Water Sea Swimming with daily swims throughout the year\nSUP/Kayak division. The Club has a pump and all the things you could need after a day out on the water!\n\nWe hold regular social events making best use of our onsite members bar and canteen. We hope you can join us to meet our members and have a go on the 24th May and see what the club is all about. \nPlease RSVP below selecting the activity you wish to partake in\, to give you the best experience\, the number of tickets on the website will be limited. Though if you don’t want to commit do come along on the day and we will do our best to get you out on the water. In an hour slot we will get you out on the water. \n\nSailing\nMeet and greet 10:15am to 1100\nChange into wet gear\n11:30 to 13:30 sailing experience\nSups 12:30 on Water from 1300\nSwim 1pm\nBBQ lighting 1 pm\n\n\n\nEvent is subject to weather conditions\, by registering up front we will aim to contact you to inform of likely cancellation postponement\, plus ensure we have enough support from our Lovely Members. \n\nWe have a small selection of wetsuits and you will be kitted out with a buoyancy aid. Though if you have your own wetsuit/kit feel free to bring it along. Sunscreen\, Towel and swimming suit recommended. \nFootwear\, please bring old trainers or wet shoes\, our beach consists of a lot of pebbles which barefoot can be uncomfortable. \nFor Children we recommend a minimum age of 7 for participation and that parents should go out on the water with Child. For 13-18 Parental consent required. \nCan’t make the 24th May? Do get in contact and we will be delighted to show you around another day! \nAll participation is at your own risk\, though we will have a rescue boat on the water.

SUMMARY:A talk by Dr Mark Harper - Cold Water swimming and health 22nd October 6.30PM
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday 22nd October 7pm \nCold Water swimming and health \nA talk by Dr Mark Harper \nMark is a consultant anaesthetist whose clinical work is split between Brighton\, England and Kristiansand\, Norway\, who\, accidentally and via quite unrelated routes\, has developed an interest in the negative effects of getting cold during surgical operations and the positive effects of cold water swimming.  His professional life and his PhD are based around keeping patients warm.  However\, his research increasingly involves immersing people (and\, as a member of Brighton Swimming Club\, himself) in cold water.  He is currently a co-applicant on the first fully-powered RCT\, Outside 2\, comparing outdoor swimming to standard care for the treatment of depression. In March 2023\, he gave a presentation at the Scottish Parliament on how and why outdoor swimming should be adopted as a public health measure.  He is a member of the All Party Parliamentary Group on outdoor swimming and health at Westminster.  His book\, ‘Chill – the cold water swim cure’ was published in 2022 and has been translated into three other languages. \nhttps://www.drmarkharper.com \nOne hour presentation followed by a chilli (veg or meat) \nAll members and guests welcome. DESCRIPTION:Bonfire night\n\nOur bonfire social is being held on Sunday 9th November this year and is open to all members families and friends.We plan to build the bonfire after sailing and light it around 5.00pmThere will be some food (please pay on the night) and a well stocked bar.If you have any old pallets or wood littering your gardens please bring it down for the bonfire\, removing all nails before! Please place in the lower part of the main annex compound\, (behind the Garage\, on the nettles).\n \nWe will of course need help to build the bonfire on Sunday afternoon!\n\n\nOur food may contain or come into contact with common allergens\, including nuts

SUMMARY:Winter Solstice Swim & Breakfast - Sunday 21st December
DESCRIPTION:EVERYONE is welcome to come along to our Winter Solstice Swim and Breakfast on Saturday 21st December at 7.45 am.  Sunrise will be at 8.00 am so we hope to be in the sea for that time.  If you just fancy a swim without brekkie come on down. \nMeet at the rocks by Lancing Sailing Club at 7.45  a.m.  After our refreshing swim Michelle and Nuala will be serving a tasty sausage in a bap (veggie or meat) or a bacon bap accompanied by OJ\, coffee or tea at a cost of £5.00 per member and £8.00 per non member (which includes the £3.00 daily membership charge). \nFor those who have not joined us at the club before this is an exciting opportunity come and have a look at where sailing and watersports happen\, not forgetting the busy social scene.
