A wide range of conditions met the 23 sailors in the Lancing Sailing Club UKLA South Coast and South East series open Meeting on 4 July. Numbers were limited due to Covid regulations.
Three races were sailed back-to-back with two to count. In the first Race, the breaking cloud lifted wind South West veering South South West force 3-4. In race 2, winds dropped off, allowing a change of order in the medal positions. Race 3, wind South backing South West then, West Force 4 building to a 5 with gusting 6. This race had many challenges for the competitors with building waves, particularly when a squall came through near the end.
ILCA 7 (Standard)
Race 1, Andy Le Grice (Warsash SC) dominated the Standards winning by a significant margin. However, there was close competition for the second position with locals Todd Grady and Craig Palmer having a great tussle with Craig coming out in front.
In race 2, again, Andy Le Grice had a great start and stayed in the lead for the whole race. This time the second position went to Todd Grady, who was chased by Will Apps (Lancing SC) for third place.
Race 3, Andy Le Grice started well but was challenged by the stronger conditions and an unfortunate collision with a tacking ILCA 6 at the final marker allowed Craig Palmer to pass who, managed to gain a good 1st. 2nd place went to Theo Aers (Blackwater SC) and 3rd to Will Apps.
ILCA 6 (Radial)
Race 1, Charlotte Videlo (Frensham Pond SC) held a commanding lead throughout, with Mile Vidler (Crawley Mariners) in second and Jimmy Carter (Lancing SC) in 3rd place after an unfortunate tack at the finish line.
In race 2, Charlotte Videlo maintained her lead with some superb downwind sailing, but this time Jimmy Carter managed to close the gap a little. 3rd place went to David Trout (Lancing SC).
As the wind picked up in race 3, from the committee boat, we could see the look of determination on Jimmy Carters face as he closed on Charlotte Videlo, who he managed to beat coming first, with Charlotte second and Mile Vidler 3rd.
ILCA 4 (4.7)
Ed Rollestone (Newhaven & Seaford SC) came an excellent first with Cameron Bignold-Kyles (Royal Lymington SC) 2nd and Josie Kelly (Felpham SC) 3rd.
In the second race, wind South South West veering South force 2, Ed Rollestone kept his lead with Cameron Bignold-Kyles again second but with Ollie Phillips (Royal Lymington SC) 3rd.
Once more, in race 3, Ed Rollestone enjoyed a winning place with a look of glee as the wind increased, with second place going to Ollie Phillips, who was also happy with the wind. In 3rd place was Cameron Bignold-Kyles.
